Bespoke Kitchen Renovation — Bridgwater

This Bridgwater project involved a complete transformation of a tired, dated kitchen in a Victorian semi-detached property. The clients wanted a high-specification bespoke kitchen that made the most of the generous room dimensions while maintaining the character of the period property.

The existing kitchen had not been updated for over 20 years. The electrics were inadequate, the boiler was outdated, there was no underfloor heating, and the layout made inefficient use of the available space. Our brief was to strip back to shell and completely rebuild — new wiring, new plumbing, new heating and a fully bespoke kitchen installation.

The Design

Working with the clients over two design meetings, we settled on a classic shaker-style kitchen in a deep sage green with light oak detailing. The layout was redesigned to create a proper galley run along two walls with a central island — transforming the workflow and social dynamics of the room.

Quartz worktops in a light grey speckled finish were chosen for their durability and low maintenance. Undermount sinks, an integrated range cooker, and full-height larder units completed the specification.

The Build Programme

Week 1

Full strip-out — removal of existing kitchen, floor coverings, ceilings and wall finishes.

Week 2

Rewire of kitchen, boiler replacement and new underfloor heating system installation.

Week 3

New plumbing layout, waste runs, and pipework for new sink position and island.

Week 4

Plasterboard, skim plaster and new ceiling. Tiling of splashback areas.

Week 5

Bespoke kitchen delivery and installation — units, worktops, island and appliances.

Week 6

Final tiling, floor laying, decoration, lighting installation and final sign-off.

The Result

The finished kitchen is a complete transformation. The shaker-style cabinetry in sage green with quartz worktops gives the room a timeless quality that feels appropriate for the period property. The new island creates a natural social hub — the clients report that the kitchen has become the heart of their home in a way that was simply impossible before.

The underfloor heating, new boiler and full rewire means the kitchen is also significantly more efficient and comfortable throughout the year. The project was completed in 6 weeks as programmed, within the fixed-price budget, and the clients were delighted with both the process and the result.
