Office Fit-Out & Refurbishment — Taunton Town Centre
When a professional services firm took on a newly leased three-floor office building in Taunton town centre, they needed to transform a tired, dated shell into a modern, functional workplace — and to do so with minimum disruption to their move-in timeline. Taunton Construction was appointed as principal contractor to deliver the complete fit-out within a 12-week programme.
The brief covered all three floors: open-plan working areas, private meeting rooms, a reception and client waiting area on the ground floor, a canteen and breakout space on the first floor, and an executive suite with boardroom above. Every floor required a complete strip-out before any new works could begin.
Scope of Works
The project encompassed a wide range of trades, all co-ordinated under a single contract. Key elements included:
Partitioning
Full-height and low-level Metsec stud partitioning throughout all three floors, including glazed office partitions with integrated blinds.
Suspended Ceilings
Armstrong grid tile ceilings with integrated LED lighting panels across open plan areas. Plasterboard ceilings to meeting rooms and executive spaces.
Electrical
Complete rewire with three-phase supply. Cat6 data cabling throughout, floor boxes, perimeter trunking and server room infrastructure.
Mechanical
New VRF air conditioning system to all floors. Upgraded heating and fresh air ventilation. Kitchen and WC plumbing throughout.
Joinery & Fit-Out
Bespoke reception desk, kitchen cabinetry, boardroom table and built-in storage units manufactured and installed by our joinery team.
Decoration
Full skim plaster to all new walls, two-coat emulsion decoration, feature wall panels and company branding elements.

Programme & Delivery
The 12-week programme was tight, but achievable with careful sequencing. We ran multiple trades concurrently where possible — while partitioning was being installed on the upper floors, mechanical first fix was underway on the ground floor. A detailed programme was shared with the client weekly, and a site manager was present full-time throughout.
One of the key challenges was the building's location in the town centre, which required all deliveries to be managed within restricted hours and materials to be stored on site rather than on the public pavement. Our team managed this efficiently throughout the project without a single complaint from the local authority or neighbouring businesses.
The Result
The completed offices were handed over on programme and within budget. The client's staff moved in the following week, and the feedback from both the client and their employees was overwhelmingly positive. The building now provides a high-quality, well-specified working environment that reflects positively on the business and its clients.
The project demonstrated Taunton Construction's ability to deliver complex, multi-trade commercial projects to a high standard and within tight timescales — exactly the kind of project we relish.
